Abstract
Acute pyelonephritis is reported as a very rare cause of acute renal failure, but recently Huang et al reported that acute renal failure is not rare in acute bacterial nephritis. Acute bacterial nephritis implies severe renal bacterial infection between acute pyelo- nephritis and renal abscess and could be classified into focal type (acute focal bacterial nephritis, acute lobar nephronia) and diffuse type (acute multifocal bacterial nephritis). We experienced two cases of non-oliguric acute renal failure due to acute bacterial nephritis, which were diagnosed by imaging studies and/or renal biopsy. We suggested that acute bacterial nephritis should be included in differential diagnosis of non- oliguric acute renal failure in children.
