Abstract
The renal effect of prolonged hypokalemia is as- sociated with renal scarring, formation of renal cysts and renal insufficiency. We recently experienced a patient with primary hyperaldosteronism who had suf- fered from intermittent muscle cramp, polyuria for 6 years without treatment. The abdomen CT finding showed renal cysts and nephrocalcinosis in both kid- neys, especially confined to medulla. We excluded other diseases which may lead to nephrocalcinosis by clinical, biochemical and radiologic findings. It was suggested that chronic hypokalemia may be one of cause of renal cyst and nephrocalcinosis.
