| Abstract |
|
Although still uncommon, fungal peritonitis is being reported with increasing frequency in patients who are undergoing chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Although most cases have involved Candida albicans, other opportunistic pathogens have been reported as well. We report serious peritonitis due to Rhodotorula glutinis, a non-pathogenic" fungus, in a 14-year-old girl treated with chronic ambulatory peritoneal dialysis. Literatures reveal that infection due to this organism is occurred extremly rare and only in patients with serious compromises of host defenses. |
