Abstract
Percutaneous renal biopsy has become an established diagnositic technique in the evaluation and follow-up of renal diseases. Although complications are few the increasing use of selective renal angiography has demonstrated an appreciable incidence of arteriovenous fistula after renal biopsy. In most instances, such fis- tulas are small, and likely to heal spontaneously. Occa- sionally, however, they can lead to massive hemorrhage, severe hypertension, and deterioration of renal function requiring operative intervention. Treatments are confined to nephrectomy with vascu- lar reconstruction as a surgical procedure or therapeutic embolization as a non-operative one. The authors experienced a case of intrarenal arter- iovenous fistula after percutaneous renal biopsy in 13 year-old male patient. He was presented persistent gross and microscopic hematuria after biopsy. Selective renal angiography revealed a fistula and therapeutic embol- ization was induced. Here we present an unusual sized arterioveneous fis- tula after percutaneous renal biopsy treated by thera- peutic emolization with coil and also review of litera- ture.
