Abstract
Intrathoracic kidney is a very rare form of renal ectopia and denotes either partial or complete protru- sion of the kidney above the diaphragm into the poste- rior mediastinum. Wolfrornm, in 1940, was first to describe an intrathor- acic kidney in a living patient. The intrathoracic kid- neys were asymptomatic, and in most cases function was normal and no medical or surgical treatment was required. Most of the patients were discovered by rou- tine chest radiography and diagnosed by excretory urography. We experienced a case of intrathoracic kidney in a 4 month old male patient who was hospitalized due to bronchiolitis and pneumonia. A brief review of literature was given.
