Abstract
Exit site and external cuff infection in the patients with CAPD with double cuff Tenckhoff catheter is a extremely troublesome complication and a major cause for removal of an otherwise well-functioning catheter. In addition, the catheter related complication can lead to more serious infection such as peritonitis if not treat- ed adequately. Careful exit site care and adequate management of catheter related infections are needed to maintain the successful CAPD in patients with end stage renal failure. We report 5 cases with severe catheter exit site infec- tion complicated with external cuff infection not re- sponded to antibiotics for more than two weeks. All these 5 patients were successfully managed by ex- cisional debridement of tissue around the external cuff without interruption of CAPD during the procedure, and continue CAPD without any more complication from one to six months after the procedure.
