| Abstract |
|
To evaluate the therapeutic effect of plasmap- heresis on active systemic lupus erythemataua (SLE), we observed the serological indices and immunological profile as well as the amount of 4 hour urinary protein excretion in 8 patients with .active SLE before and after plasmapheresis. The results are as follows; 1) There was no significant difference in the serum complement level before and after plasma- pheresis. 2) The reduction of serum immunoglobulin and anti-ds DNA level was detected after plasmaphe- resis without statistical significance 3) After plasmapheresis, the significant reduct- ion of 24 hour urinary protein excretion was observed(p<0 05) 4) We experienced one major tetany episode as well as 2 cases of minor urticaria We suggested that plasmapheresis in conjunction with the immunosuppressive therapy could be an effective modality of management in patients with rapidly deteriorati ng SLE who are respond- ing inadequately to the conventional therapy. |
