Abstract
The authors have reported previously that cool (35'C) dialysate hemodialysis significantly reduced the fre- quency of intra-dialytic hypotension compaired with that of conventional warm (37'C) dialysate hemo- dialysis. We initiated this study to see whether or not cool dialysate hemodialysis may reduced the efficiency of hemodialysis. 14 patients who had over 15 F <, incidence of hypoten- sion during conventional (37'C) hemodialysis were in- cluded in this study. We measured dialyzer creatinine clearance rate and per cent reduction of creatinine during warm (37'C) and cool (35'C) hemoidalysis. Dialyzer creatinine clearance was 168.9±60.5 (ml/ min) at 37C and 161.6±58.2 (ml/min) at 35'C. (P=0.51, N=37). Per cent creatinine reduction was 57.9±9.3% at 37C and 56.8±8.9% at 35C (P=0.42, N=37). There were no significant difference on the efficiency of hemodialysis between warm and cool dialysate hemodialysis. In conclusion, cool dialysate hemodialysis was proved to be an useful method in the management of intradialytic episodes of hypotension without significant reduction of hemoidalysis efficiency.
