Abstract
Fungus is an uncommon cause of peritonitis in patients on CAPD, but it is one of the leading causes of failure or interruption of CAPD. Penicillium is known as an ubiquitous non-pathogenic saprophytic fungus, which has resulted in serious infec- tions in the compromised host on rare occasions. We are reporting a case of Penicillium peritonitis in a 27 year old male patient of CAPD, which developed after prolonged intraperitoneal administration of antibi- otics for recurrent peritonitis. The peritonitis was controlled after removal of the peritoneal catheter and combined with the oral administration of ketoconazole and flucytocine.
