Abstract
Recently the necessity of prolonged Azathioprine therapy in renal transplant patients is questioned. We also observed 2 one-haplotype matched and one cadaveric renal transplant patients who were well with little or no azathioprine. After Azathiprine withdrawal, the serum creat-nine levels stayed stable for the following 69 patientmonths of observation. Four rejection episodes were treated satisfactorily with corticosterid only. These observations throw some doubt that azathioprine may not bear a major role in long term immunosupressive therapy of renal transplat patients.
