Abstract
Recently a syndrome of acute hypoxemia with various cardiopulmonary symptoms has been shown to occur in hemodialysis patients during the first 30 60 minutes of hemodialysis. It has been attributed to membrane related complement activation leading to pulmonary leokostasis and/or to hypovetilation secondary to carbon dioxide losses via the dialyzer. For the assessment of the role of membrane and dialysis related factors by using different dialzers , serial studies of arterial blood gas analysis, leuko-cyte count and serum complement level during he- modialysis were performed. The results obtained we reas followings. 1. The major falls of arterial oxygen tension occurred during the first 30 minutes of hemodialysis. 2. No
